HUD HBCU Program in Serious Jeopardy

Posted by admin - April 5, 2011 - Uncategorized - No Comments

Funding for the HUD HBCU program has been eliminated from the 2011 and 2012 HUD budget!!  The HUD HBCU program is in serious jeopardy!!

There is an urgent need to stand up, speak out, and let Congress know that the elimination of this program means the loss of funding to help black colleges help their communities, it also means the loss of a decade-long partnership between HUD and HBCUs to transform underserved communities, and it ultimately means the loss of economic opportunity for families in your communities.

This is an urgent call to action for students, faculty and staff at HBCUs; parents, ministers and community leaders; and community development professionals across the country, to show support for the HUD HBCU program!!

To fight the proposed elimination of the HUD HBCU program, we are asking you to:

  1. Send a letter or call your Congressional representative detailing how the HUD HBCU program funds have helped your institution and your community.
  2. Encourage and assist community members who directly benefited from HUD HBCU programs to write letters of support for the HUD HBCU program.
  3. Urge business owners in your community who directly benefited from HBCU funded programs to write letters in support of keeping the funding.
